GARNER, AGNES
MATHERS, age 84, resident of Orlando Lutheran Towers, formerly of Satellite Beach, FL, passed away on May 26, 2007 at the Florida Hospital South. Born on June 15, 1922, in Greenville, FL to Joseph and Ruby M. Mathers. Her ancestors were among the early pioneers into the Florida territory, arriving in about 1823, a fact of much pride to her. Agnes was married to the late Alvin Ray Garner, Major ASAF (Ret.) and had celebrated 55 years together. Along with being a devoted wife and mother, she was active in First Christian Church of Melbourne and the Christian Women's Fellowship, serving in many capacities over the years. She also was a member of the Patrick AFB Officer's Wives Club, Satellite Beach Garden Club, The Gourmet Club, Satellite Beach Women's Club, Brevard County Pioneers and the South Brevard Democratic Women. She worked with the Brevard County School system as a Substitute Teacher or a Team. Teacher for over thirty years before retiring to travel with her husband. They were able to travel all over the world and she loved trying new adventures, and meeting new people. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Donna Rae Garcia (Jesse), of Orlando, FL and Barbara "Bobbi" Bailey (Steve) of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren, Stephanie Bailey, of Mint Hill, N.C. and Jarod Bailey of Matthews, N.C., David Garcia (Jeanine) of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Lynda Tomlinson (Josh) of El Sequndo, CA. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Maxwell Tomlinson and Sophia Garcia; sister-in-law, Betty G. Kelly (Olin); four nephews, five nieces, and many cousins. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran in Orlando Lutheran Towers, 300 E. Church St., Orlando, FL at 10AM, Friday, June 15, 2007, followed by interment at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at 1PM. A second memorial service will be held at Agnes' home church, First Christian Church, 2010 S. Babcock St., Melbourne, FL on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 2PM. In lieu of flowers you may make donations in her memory to either: The Arthritis Foundation or First Christian Church or Melbourne. Services are being handled by Carey-Hand Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Rd., Orlando, FL 32806
