Stephen Lavern Jackson, 60, of Florence and formerly of Mullins, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born in Marion County on August 17, 1958, a son of the late Lavern Jackson and Bobbie Jean Shelley Jackson. Steve was an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan and also enjoyed NFL football. Always a hard worker, he spent many years building and refinishing furniture.

Steve was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by his grandparents who played a large role in raising him, Tate and Janie Shelley, and by the love of his life, Alevia Smith.

He is survived by a sister, Debra Grainger of Columbia, his aunt and uncle, Johnny and Linda Shelley of Florence, a special cousin, Mike Shelley of Rock Hill; his best friend, Jimmy Free of Florence and a stepdaughter, Summer Lynn Summerford of Temperance Hill.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2019 in the chapel of Meares Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the foyer of the funeral home following the service. A private burial will be held at a later time.
