Steve went home to be with his Lord on December 1, 2009. He was in his 82nd year.

Loving husband, of almost 57 years, to Sandra (nee Damsma) and Dad to Nelda (Pieter) Looyenga, Wynne (Pete) Ross, Gilbert (Debbie), Peter (Sue) and Pat (Keith) Metzloff. Pake to Chris (Tarra), Nika (Andrew), Colleen, Robert, Jesse (Katie), Reuben, Darryl (Jen), Steven (Stephanie), Tiffany, Kelsi (Steve), Kevin (Melinda), Crystal (Matt), Skylar (Sarah), Taryn, Philip, Sharlet, Casey, Rebecca and Amber. He will also be missed by his eight great-grandchildren and numerous brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Steve was predeceased by his brothers Bill and Pete, brothers-in-law Eddy Dam, Jake Damsma, Albert Heemsbergen and sister-in-law Wilma Dam.

Steve came to Canada from the Netherlands at 21 and made a living as a carpenter, the last 25 years of his career being spent at Conestoga College. Steve loved fishing and spent twelve years living in Point Clark, fixing and improving the property there. In spite of having many health problems in the latter part of his life, Steve was a fighter and his family was of utmost importance to him. His family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Lisaard House for the wonderful care they gave Steve.
