Daniel Franklin Phillips, Jr. age 80 of Decatur passed away Friday evening, April 12, 2019 at his home with his family at his side. Daniel was born in Chattanooga on September 14, 1938 the son of the late Daniel Franklin Phillips, Sr. and Julia (Thomas) Phillips. He was also preceded in death by his infant son and daughter and his brother, David W. Phillips.

Daniel served his country with the US Army as a Sergeant in Korea. He retired after 43 years as a pulper engineer with Chattanooga Paper Board.
He was an active member of the Old Washington Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda (Hayes) Phillips of Decatur, his daughter, Sandra (James) Millard of Dayton, two sons, Daniel Franklin “Danny” (Melissa) Phillips, III of Madisonville, KY and Carlton Dewayne Phillips of East Ridge. Also surviving are his two sisters, Jo Chastain and Judy Morgan both of Birchwood along with his five grandchildren and three great-grandsons.

Funeral services with military honors for Daniel will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel with his pastor, Rev. Rusty Revis officiating and assisted by Rev. Albert Oliver. He will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family is being cared for by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Monday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.
