Hugh Francis Phillips, 87, of Walker Road, Deerfield, passed away February 2, 2014, at The Presbyterian Home. Hugh was born in Clinton on September 9, 1926, the son of Hugh, Sr., and Mary (Roberts) Phillips, and attended Clinton Schools. He served proudly in the United States Army. On November 24, 1966, Hugh was married to Helen Zurek in St. Peter's Church, Utica. He was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and later by NYSDDSO until his retirement. Hugh enjoyed watching Notre Dame Football as well as his beloved Yankees. Hugh is survived by his wife, Helen; her son, Rodney (Marilyn) Zurek, of Utica, and their children, Jill (Michael) Mallozzi, of Philadelphia, and Michael (Megan) Zurek, of Greensboro, NC; sister, Pauline Converse, of Trenton, NJ; brother, Alfred Phillips, of the Presbyterian Home; sisters-in-law, Emily and Ellen Phillips, of Clinton; several nieces and nephews; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Phillips; brothers, Joseph and William Phillips; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Phillips.
