By son: It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Marilyn Elmore Brown passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at the age of 86. Marilyn was a beloved daughter, sister, educator, wife, and mother. She is survived by her only child, Kort L. Brown.
Marilyn was born and raised in New Holland, Illinois, and received her Bachelor's of Education from Bethel College in McKenzie, TN. Marilyn was anything but ordinary. A spirited adventurer with a zest for life and culture. Marilyn, became a teacher for the Department of Defense and lived and taught all over the world. She started in Seoul, Korea, but later moved to Turkey, where she had her beloved son, Kort. she and Kort later moved to Italy and then Japan. She also taught in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before finally retiring in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. In 2012, she moved to Miami, Florida to be closer to her son.
Marilyn had a beautiful heart and devoted her life to empowering and encouraging others to find their passions and strengths. Affectionately known by many as the famous "Mrs. E," she was a true artist and musician. She was not only a guidepost and teacher to her students, but a muse and source of inspiration to all of those she encountered. she touched the lives of many, including her cherished students whom she helped grow and succeed. She directed countless productions throughout her life, for which she received personal and professional acclaim. Her talent and her ability to reach people through music and theater is self-evident, but was also recognized by individuals, theatre critics, and even the White House. Marilyn lived a rich and full life, filled with loving relationships, meaningful moments, and a sense of gratitude. These were the things she prized above all else. Of her many contributions to the world, her ability to create special memories and moments with those around her will be remembered, treasured, and shared for many lifetimes
