Mr. Brooks was born on August 12, 1933, in Griffin, to the late Aubrey Brooks and the late Jennie Quick Brooks. He was one of nine siblings. Mr. Brooks was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a hard worker and retired from Ford Motor Company. He had a passion for woodworking and blessed many people with his craftsmanship. He had a deep love for the Lord and served others selflessly. Prior to his illness, he was an active member of First Baptist Church in Zebulon.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (Libby) Brooks; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and Jim Woodall and Jennifer and Dana Gilow; five grandchildren, Brandi (Gilow) Kennedy, Cameron Gilow, Ginny (Woodall) Blakeney, Elizabeth (Woodall) Brazel, and Catherine Woodall; five great-grandchildren; Ava and Noah Patteson, Addie Grace Kennedy, Bowen and Austyn Blakeney, and Brooks Brazel. He is survived by one sibling; sister, Doris Ponder and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday, April 13, 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services for Mr. Melvin E. Brooks will be held on Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Dr. Ed Hoard officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin.
