Janice Murphree Compton Howard, a resident of Gardendale, AL, was born in Bessemer, AL, on October 2, 1948. Janice passed away peacefully with her daughter and husband at her side on May 12, 2017 at the age of 68. She graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and had a long career as an accountant in the healthcare industry. Janice was also a faithful member of Fultondale First Baptist Church.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Violet Murphree; her first husband, William Everett Compton; and a brother, Melvin James Murphree.
Janice is survived by her husband, Hugh Eugene “Gene” Howard; daughter, Kimberly Curtiss (Michael); stepchildren, Robert Howard (Vicki) and Glenda Smith; siblings, William Murphree (Bunny), Annie Ruth Shepherd (Thomas), Dwain Murphree (Sue), and Fred Murphree; sister-in-law, Dianna Murphree; grandchildren, Kaleigh Campbell, Bobby Howard, Grant Howard, Allison Horton (Thomas), David Smith and Chris Smith; several great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, Gardendale, Al, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 with a visitation to begin at 1:00pm; funeral service at 2:00pm, followed by her burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, AL. Services will be officiated by Rev. Mika Marcum.
