Mr. Billy “Wahoo” Eugene Brooks, 76 passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Mr. Brooks was born February 22, 1943 in Robeson County. NC; the son of the late Curtis and Josephine Brewington Brooks, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Brooks; a granddaughter, Kaylee White; and two nephews, Ryan Brooks and David Caldwell.
He attended River City Baptist Church and retired from Asplundh Tree Service with 46 years of service. Mr. Brooks enjoyed fishing, playing pool, playing cards and Bingo.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Nancy Caldwell Brooks; four children, Susan (Ken) Phillips, Gene (Michelle) Brooks, Nancy (Steven) White, and Norma Jean Brooks (Kevin) Portas; grandchildren, Ryan White, MyKenna Brooks, Seth Portas and Krista Portas; one sister, Ruby (Eddie) Ammons; a sister-in-law, Myrtis (Stoney) Bullard; a brother-in-law, Doug (Phoebe) Caldwell; nieces, Amy (Chris) Cummings and Leigh (Mark) Johnson; a nephew, Jeff Brooks; and a special K-9 companion, Buddy.
A funeral service was conducted at 4:00PM, Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Gentry Family Chapel with Pastor Dennis Bell officiating.
Burial was made in Yadkin Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends from 3:00 to 4:00PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of WFBMC Care Team and Hospice for the loving care given to Mr. Brooks.
