Brenda Jane “Bama” Rhodes, age 70 of Portage, IN went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 23, 1948 in Orlando, West Virginia to William and June (Skinner) Claybourne.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Ron Rhodes; children, Missy (Bob) Kainrath of Hobart, Ron (Cyndi Friedrich) Rhodes Jr. of Portage, and Tina (Ed) Truman of Portage; grandchildren, Matt, Bobby, Adam, Shawn, Ryan, Carissa, Allison, and Ronnie III; brother, Timmy Claybourne; sisters, Beth Claybourne and Starr Moff; and several nieces, nephews, many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Claybourne; and granddaughter, Ashley Truman.
Brenda was a member of South Lake Worship Center. She worked in Housekeeping at St. Mary’s Hospital in Hobart. Brenda enjoyed arts and crafts and had a passion for collecting porcelain dolls. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Brenda was an inspiration to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 10:00 am at South Lake Worship Center, 3440 W. 61st Ave., Hobart, IN 46342 with Pastor Sam Abbot officiating. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
