HURLEY W. HANKEY, Sr. Mr. Hankey, age 79, born on Christmas Eve, 1929 was a longtime resident of Tequesta, Florida and formerly of Shickshinny, PA. Hurley passed away peacefully on April 8, 2009 at a local hospital with his loving family by his side. Mr. Hankey was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Force during WWII. Hurley and his brother, Morris, owned and managed one of the most successful diners of the era - The Zephyr Diner - on Route 11 in Berwick, PA. Once they sold the diner, they built the first bowling alleys that used automatic pin setters in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. They then sold the bowling alleys and built and managed the largest chain of Roller Skating Rinks on the East Coast. Hurley was a private pilot that flew his own plane and also traveled extensively via his Motor Coach. He was a member of Jupiter First Church. Although Hurley was an avid golfer and a member of many Golf Clubs through the years, the Turtle Creek Club was his favorite and he was a member since 1972. Hurley enjoyed his Turtle Creek friends and reveled in playing Poker and Gin Rummy with them. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Ann Hankey; his four children; Michelle (Dale Hedge) Hankey, Allicyn (Thomas) Winchester, Hurley W. (Maureen) Hankey, Jr. and Dayna Clarke; two grandchildren; Hurley W. Hankey, and Devin Hankey; one brother, Morris (JoAnne) Hankey. A Celebration of Hurley's Life will be held 4:00 PM, Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Jupiter First Church, 1475 Indian Creek Pkwy, Jupiter, FL with his dear friend, Dr. Barry Johnson officiating. The United States Army will present Military Honors to the family at the Celebration of Life service for Hurley. In lieu of flowers, offerings may be made to the Jupiter First Church in memory of Hurley W. Hankey, Sr.
