Roy Daniels, Jr., age 71 and a life resident of Long Branch, died on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at his home.

He was born in Greenville, North Carolina to the late Esther Mae and Birt Leroy Daniels. His siblings are brothers, Aulander (Buddy), Milton, Michael, Louie and sisters, Doris (deceased), Elizabeth, Francine, and Shirley.

Roy served our Country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War and also in Germany. He was a New Jersey State Trooper for 23 years earning the nickname Pops Daniels and retired July 1, 2002 as Detective Sergeant First Class. Roy was also a Special Agent with the New Jersey State Commission of Investigation retiring from there July 2014 where he was an “unsung hero”. He was a member of the VFW Post 1333 in Asbury Park and the Second Baptist Church in Long Branch.

Roy could SING! He sang with popular R&B artists such as The O’Jays, Sister Sledge, Luther Vandross, The Tramps, Kool and the Gang, Third World, and many, many others. He also put out two albums, “The Street People” and a gospel album, "The Daniels Family Singers”, (Nobody But Jesus).

Surviving are his wife Martha; two daughters, Chandra and Niesha; his son, Roy III and six grandchildren, Maya, Joseph, Jasmine, Jakiya, Mehki, and Jeremiah.

Visitation will be held at the Second Baptist Church, 93 Liberty Street in Long Branch on Saturday, April 13 from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am. Interment will be on Tuesday, April 16 at 11 am at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Second Baptist Church.
