Mason Opal "Slim" Yarbrough was a Marine Ranger in World War II. He died on August 17, 1942, one day after his 21st birthday. Gung Ho, a movie account of the war in the Pacific, shows a scene "depicting" members of Carlson's Raiders celebrating Mason's birthday aboard a submarine in the Makin Islands just before they prepared to go to shore for combat. Mason's remains were identified and returned to his home in Sikeston, Missouri on December of 2000, 58 years after he was killed in action.
