My dear, sweet, beautiful mother.
You have no idea how much you will be missed.

Age 49, of Saint Paul Passed away suddenly on March 30, 2019 in her home. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 25th from 10-12 at Saint Stanislaus Church, 398 W. Superior St., St. Paul, MN with a luncheon to follow. She was an amazing mother, sister, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed. She left behind her two children Laura and Seth, her sister Missy, niece Sami, nephew Kyle, great nephews James and Avery, her four beloved cats and many other family and friends. As Gina would say, although the loss is difficult, this too shall pass.

So that was what was printed in the paper, but Gigi was so much more than that. She was the first daughter of Richard and Fay (Toni) Brown, and she loved her little sister Missy more than life. Once, when she was a baby, she lived in California! But then she came back to Minnesota. She was a Saint Paulite for just about all of her life and she had East Side Pride. She used to tell me "You can take the girl out of the East Side but you can't take the East Side out of the girl." She was a smart kid, but she hated school. She always talked about a teacher she had in high school who would watch her leave the building during classtime and yell "Bye, Gina!" because he knew she would pass the tests anyway. On September 12, 1992, she married Rick Mitchell, and she loved him. This marriage produced two children before it ended, and she went through so much for her kids, and always, always appeared strong and determined. Gigi's life was not easy, but she never complained. Her motto in life was "this too shall pass" and she lived by it, and she taught her children to be strong and to be kind - she did it well. She worked for the police department of the City of Saint Paul for more than twenty years, and though she took pride in her work, I think several others would agree with her and she wouldn't mind my saying here, "f*ck the police".

She liked to go to the Renaissance Festival and even the state fair, if only for the people-watching. She loved crime shows and Courage the Cowardly Dog, she loved ghosts, she loved nature and strove to be one with it. She loved her friends and never said a bad word about even one of them. She was beautiful - I always thought she looked like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz in her wedding photo. But she didn't act like it. She was humble, but she would tell you like it is if she had a mind to. She had strong opinions about a lot of things and she loved the Minnesota Vikings, though they disappointed her a lot. She loved Tom Petty, RHCP, and Nazareth. Her first concert was Styx. She liked Arizona and always wanted to move there. Someday, part of her will be there. She loved pogo.com, and played a lot of tri-peaks solitaire and gin. She loved her cats to pieces. She was a poet, and I think at least part of her knowed it. Her handwriting was beautiful. When she sneezed, she sneezed ten times in a row, and it would make her cuss. She loved Lake Superior, lighthouses, and horses. She didn't like to have her picture taken. She liked Marlboro lights, but refused to smoke the shorts. She is preceded in death by her dear aunt, Lolo and they're together now laughing at all the rest of us sorry saps, throwing dimes at us.

She was a wonderful lady and I don't think she ever quite knew how much she meant to everyone around her. She was my mama and the world doesn't feel the same without her and I know it never will. She went out fast and suddenly and it's a whirlwind but I hope Gigi knows she will always be loved, she will always be talked about, there is so much about her that will always matter. Goodnight Mom.
