Shirley A. (Adams) Holmes, age 83, life-long Willard resident, took the hand of Jesus to go home on April 5, 2019. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was born on November 6, 1935 in Willard, Ohio to the late Carl and Elizabeth (Risner) Adams. Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Willard High School. She met her future husband, Glenn Holmes, when he was 17 and she was 16. They married on February 18, 1956 and were married 53 years until his death in 2009. Together they devoted their lives to raising their four children.

At different times in her life, Shirley worked at the Pioneer Rubber Company, the Shelby Air Depot, Hillside Acres Nursing Home and later at R.R. Donnelley and Sons. She was an avid reader her entire life and would stay up to 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning reading right up until the last year of her life. She was especially a fan of everything western...novels, mementos, antiques and decor. Shirley had a green thumb and enjoyed expanding her backyard flower garden and container pots. She also enjoyed looking for one-of-a-kind antiques. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her as one of their best friends and confidants and she will be remembered by them as one of their biggest cheerleaders. Shirley attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Willard.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glenn, her brother Richard (Bud) Adams, and sister Flora Jean Michalski.. She is survived by her daughters Susan (Evan) Hellinger and Shelley (Mark) Holden; sons David Holmes and Steven (Donna) Holmes; grandchildren Whitney (Wes) Smith, Haley (Mark) Inmon, Landon Wiles, Cody (Malarie) Grundish, Matt Grundish, and Madison Holmes; great-grandchildren Iver, Maverick, and Harvie Inmon, and Bodhi Smith; her sister Donna Bareiter and treasured friend Donna Kamann.

A private family funeral will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial donations to the Huron County Community Library (Willard) or Stein Hospice. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.secorfuneralhomes.com
