David Francis Maher, 88, passed away at 7:05 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 peacefully at home with his family by his side.
He was born on February 4, 1930 in Alton, IL the son of Joseph and Myrtle (Dwiggins) Maher.
David married Cleo (Bextermueller) Maher on January 14, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Church in West Alton, MO. She preceded him in death.
He worked as an electrician for Owen Illinois Glass for 35 years. David was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. He was a member of the Boots and Saddle Club, an avid horseman, an avid boater and fisherman.
David is survived by three sons, Dave (Kristina) Maher of Ashland, OR, Lee Maher of Atlanta, GA, Brad Maher of Godfrey; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Maher of Naperville, IL; a granddaughter, Shawna Maher of Naperville, IL; two grandsons, Cory (Clancy) Maher of White Hall, IL, Brock Maher of Godfrey; three siblings, Larry Maher of Flora, IL, Mike (Peggy) Maher of Godfrey, Mary Ann (Fred) Hentrich of Alton; sister-in-law, Alice Maher of Alton; two great grandchildren, Colton Lilly of Naperville, IL and Daniel Maher of White Hall.
In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by two sons; Jeff and Glen Maher; a brother, Joseph ?Slim? Maher; a sister and brother-in-law, June (Lyle) Ganter; a sister-in-law, Maureen Maher.
He was laid to rest at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey.
