In 1969, Bill joined the U.S. Army and served in the Viet Nam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. While in Viet Nam he came in contact with Agent Orange which eventually took his life.
Bill then attended Bentley University and the University of Massachusetts. Bill worked in the Fencing business in Somerville, Massachusetts. He met and married Maryann McDermot in 1978 and they had three children, Kelly, Shannon and Matthew Kane.
Bill eventually divorced and moved back to Pontiac, Michigan, where he met and married Brenda Stalker. Bill and Brenda continued in the fencing business and loved vacationing in Florida. They both enjoyed shuffleboard and played in and ran many tournaments in Michigan and all around the country. Bill was an excellent player and earned a professional ranking, and was inducted into the Michigan Shuffleboard Hall of Fame in August of 2009. They also owned Kane's Club Car in Durand , Michigan, where they began holding shuffleboard tournaments that continue today.
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, a great brother and friend and will be missed by all. He leaves his wife, Brenda; daughters Kelly and Shannon, son Matthew, and three stepchildren - Sean, Melody and Christina; as well many grandchildren; and his brothers Robert H. of Massachusetts, Robert J. and family of Nevada and Daniel and family of Michigan.
A Memorial service will be held on April 8, 2019 at 11 AM at Sparks Griffin Funeral Home. Interment ceremony will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
