In between his education he served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. He worked at Tri C., Inch, was a Professor at Idaho State University, and the College of Southern Idaho, as an Education Facilitator at Boise Cascade, was Production Manager at Gaylord Containers. He worked with kids in the Twin Falls, Filer, and Casio County Schools, as a teacher in China, as a Psychosocial Rehabilitation counselor for kids. Former owner / operator of Feathers Plus Bird Farm and Paul Idaho Stead House.

Father of Shauna, Daya, Christina, Kathern, Victoria, and Veronica. Grandfather of 17. Brother of Lynn of Boise, Bruce of Missouri, Lance of Mexico, Steve of Roseburg, Terry of Newport, Oregon, and Kevin Vancouver, Washington.

Predeceased by his parents Wallace Arthur and Elizabeth "Betty" Ann (Sturdevant) [Ward] Newman (b. September 9,1926; d. July 12, 2005 at 78 years) and his grandparents Leon Cecil and Elizabeth Ann (Thompson) Sturdevant.
