Jacob H. Reese, 89, who wan born in Manchester, England, of American parents, Feb. 5, 1831, and was a resident of Yonkers from 1871 to 1901, died at his home, 478 West 145th street, New York, Saturday. His early life was spent in the city of Philadelphia. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, class of 1850. Shortly after his graduation he pioneered the first transcontinental railroads and later engaged in farming. Subsequently he became the senior partner of the firm of Reese, Williamson & Co., dry goods importers, in Philadelphia, and upon dissolution of this firm in the late '70s, he continued under his own name in New York City until 1902, when he retired at the age of 71. In 1869 he married Clara Jaffray, daughter of Richmond Jaffray and Abbie Hamilton, and niece of the late Edward S. Jaffray, formerly of the firm of E.S. Jaffray & Co., 350 Broadway, New York. His wife died in 1899. Four sons and two daughters survive him: George Herbert, Arthur Mesier, Richmond Jaffray, Gerald Livingston, Lilian Hamilton and Clara Hildegarde. The funeral will be held at St. Paul's Church, Yonkers, tomorrow afternoon; burial at Oakland.
