Mrs. Clara Mae Barnes, more affectionately known as “Shorty,” was born on December 5, 1935 IN Milner, Lamar County, Georgia, to the parentage of the late Tommie Goss and the late Maude West Goss.

HER LIFE

Clara was educated in the Lamar County School System. She worked at Smith Shop in Barnesville, GA for a number of years. She would later become employed with Springs Industries (formerly Dundee Mills) in Griffin, Ga, where she retired in 2000 after 28 years of service. She was united in holy matrimony to James Barnes on December 4, 1954. Six children were born to their union. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1989.

Clara enjoyed her life and her family. She loved singing. Talking with friends, cooking and making people smile. She neve met a stranger, as she was cordial and friendly to all that she encountered.

HER FAITH

At an early age, Clara accepted Christ as her savior. She joined the Greater Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Milner, GA, where she remained a faithful member until her health began to fail. She served her church by singing in the choir and serving as an usher for many years.

HER DEPARTURE

On Wednesday, February 6, 2019, the Lord decided that Clara’s departure was at hand. He called her from her earthly home into eternal rest. Clara was preceded in death by her sister, Lillie R. Smith; a brother, Tommie Goss; and two grandsons, Michael Williams and Arthur K. Maddox.

HER FAMILY

Clara leaves fond memories to be cherished by her family to include her children, Nadine Barnes of Barnesville, GA, Charlene (Arthur) Maddox of Atlanta, GA, Thomas J. (Linda) Barnes of Warner Robins, GA, Alicia A. Barnes, Terry M. Barnes, and Wendy D. Barnes of Barnesville, GA; ten grandchildren, Valerie Maddox, Keilonza (Yolanda) Harden, Christopher Walker, LaKeshia Barnes, Terrell Barnes, Shaquita Barnes, Cornelius Walker, Quenton Barnes, Deonte’ Barnes and Quency Barnes; twenty-three great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary H. Barber of Orlando, FL; one brother, Will Farley of Barnesville, GA; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Goss of Orlando, FL; a devoted god-daughter, Wanda Robinson; devoted cousins, Emma M. Lyons; Willie A. Wilson, and Fannie Hosley; a devoted neighbor Thelma Foster; a devoted friend, Marjorie Richardson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends who will miss her presence.
