(January 14, 1921 - June 8, 2007)

Jim Gardner, 86, of Waycross died Friday afternoon (June 8, 2007) at Satilla Care Center after an extended illness. He was born in Ware County to the late William Cline Gardner and Myra Thomas Gardner and lived here most of his life. Mr. Gardner was a United States Army Veteran where he served his country in World War II and was a German P.O.W.. Mr. Gardner retired in 1998 from Dixon Tractor Company where he was a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Gardner, a step-daughter, Sara Lovett and a step-granddaughter, Anna Lovett.

Survivors include his wife, Crystal Dixon Gardner, Waycross, one son, Richard Gardner, Waycross, one step-son, James "Jake" Lovett and his wife Kay, Cobbtown, GA, one step-daughter, Julia Hiers and her husband Wendell, Waycross, three grandchildren, Ricky Gardner, Waresboro, Channing Gardner, Waycross, Taniel Roberson, Waresboro, one step-grandson, Scotty Hiers and his wife Nora, Waycross, one step-granddaughter, Amanda Vernon and her husband Dustin, Waycross, great grandchildren, Caleb Hiers, Grace Anna Vernon, Hannah Gardner, Austin Gardner, Drew Gardner, McKenzie Roberson, Matt Roberson, Ashley Roberson, one sister, Virginia Davis, Waycross and several other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Monday at Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The Men's Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers and should gather at the church by 10 am.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 til 8 pm at the funeral home.
