Johnny “Bud” Mason Long, Sr., 80, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, April 2­, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Newport, NC, officiated by Rev. Tom Supplee.

Bud retired from the Morehead City State Port where he worked many years as a longshoreman. He loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter. In his spare time, he enjoyed restoring old farm tractors. Johnny was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his sons, Johnny Long, Jr. and wife Emily of Newport and Wesley Long and wife Tracy of Newport; sister, Mattie Harl of Newport; grandchildren, Kaleigh Long, Rachel Long and Felicia Hartsough; and great-grandson, Jaxson Hartsough.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Fulcher Long; and parents, Cleveland and Leola Belle Long; sisters, Vira Ruby Hulsey, Leola Blanche Finny, Dollie Ann Gillikin; and brothers, Ira Lee Long, Jasper Cleveland Long, James William Long, Horace Woodell Long, Wesley Clayton Long and Kermit Waldron Long.
