Acme Resident Dies Suddenly
Mrs. Vern Smith of Acme died suddenly Tuesday afternoon while shopping in downtown Traverse City. She was 72 years old.
Ruth Ellis Arnold was born at the old Arnold homestead at Bates on August 9th, 1876, and her entire, life was spent in the Grand Traverse region.
She was married on October 25th, 1S97, to Laverne Ellis Smith of Acme. The couple settled on a farm in Acme township and were well-known throughout the commmunity.
Mrs. Smith was a devoted worker in the Acme church. Her husband preceded her in death four years ago.
Left to mourn their loss are one son, George, of this city; two brothers Walter Arnold of Webster street and Clayton Arnold of Washington street; three grandchildren, Betty Ann,George Vern, Jr., and Larry James Smith, all of this city; several nieces and nephews.
The body was taken to the Hibbard Chapel where services will be lield Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. L. E. Andersen of Cheboygan, formerly of this city, officiating. Burial will be made in the family lot in the Acme cemetery
