The first of his siblings to go to college, Ron graduated from the University of Wisconsin with an engineering degree that soon brought him to Michigan to begin a life-long career at General Motors Proving Grounds. Here he completed his Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan. A beautiful, tall, red-headed nurse caught his eye at a dance and he never looked back. Ron and Pat were married on June 1, 1968 and they couldn’t wait to start a family. Colleen was born the following year and Christopher two years later.
Along the way, he designed and built their house of forty years, traveled with his family all over the world, enjoyed tennis, wind surfing, sailing and skiing. The family grew with the addition of spouses, David and Maria and then was blessed with four grandchildren: Olivia, Marcella, Dane and Adrian who he loved so very much.
Ron was also known as “Mr. Fix-It” and was always willing to help in any way he could. Of most importance to Ron was his love of the Lord. He was a man of faith, conviction and honor. He was an active member of St. Joseph Parish Dexter, the Knights of Columbus, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, and fervently valued the right to life of the unborn.
Ron bravely faced cancer and battled for two years to stay alongside Pat, the love of his life for over 50 years. He passed away at the age of 77 at home, surrounded by his family, into our Lord’s arms on Monday, March 19th.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, sister and two brothers. Ron’s presence will be missed by all of his family and friends whose lives he touched.
Friends and family will gather on Sunday, March 25th from 3:00-8:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney. Visitation will also be from 10:00-11:00 am on Monday, March 26th followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic (Country) Church, 6805 Mast Road, Dexter with Fr. Brendan Walsh presiding. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Right to Life of Michigan or Habitat for Humanity.
