Mary Lou was born in Rupert Idaho with uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends always nearby. She had a wonderful life in Idaho and has told many stories about her experiences in her youth. She loved walking down to the town square in Rupert and hanging out with her friends and cousins. Her great sadness in her youth was the death of her sweet sister Vivian and seeing her brothers Bill and Art go off to fight in World War II and the Korean War.
After high school Mary Lou went to BYU where she met her husband, Blaine LeGrande Barker, at a dance. Mary Lou loved to dance and would “cut the rug” with her husband when they heard one of their favorite tunes on the radio.
Mary Lou was a wonderful mother to Sherrie Lynn, Bonnie, Randall LeGrande, LouAnne, Terri Kay, and Michelle. She concentrated on raising her children and making sure that each of the kids knew what she expected and knew what their Father in Heaven expected. Mary Lou provided a safe and happy home in Springville, UT.
The family followed Blaine through several job transfers. Mary Lou made sure that she and the kids showed up the first Sunday in their new Ward. There was no question that her children would be in church every Sunday.
After moving with the family to Omaha Nebraska Mary Lou eventually went to work in the general office of Richman Gordman. She loved her work at RG and was a wonderful example to those whom she worked with.
When Blaine retired from his job at Skaggs he and Mary Lou returned to Springville UT and built a beautiful home where they lived out their “golden years.” Blaine and Mary Lou went on a mission for the LDS church to Rochester NY where they were able to be a beacon to many people.
Mary Lou spent her last year of life living at The Ashford in Springville, UT. She declared her suite there as the fanciest place she had ever lived in. She made many friends while at the Ashford and enjoyed the social life there.
