Vernon Matthew Harvey, age 82, of Moorefield, WV, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, WV. Born on November 17, 1936 in Fisher, WV, he was the son of the late George Buster Harvey and Mary Jane Ford Harvey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Kelly Cole Sowell in August 2018; and two brothers, James "Dick" Harvey and Raymond "Rab" Harvey in March 2018.
He is survived by three daughters, Carla Thomas and husband, Charles Thomas, III of Hagerstown, MD, Robin Cole of Carlisle, PA, and Tina Randolph of Staunton, VA; two sons, Derrick Harvey and wife, Kathy of Old Fields, WV and Shawn Harvey and wife, Erica of Warm Springs, NC; one sister, Mildred Redman of Columbus, OH; one brother, George Harvey of Columbus, OH; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Vernon served in the U S Army from May 1956 – October 1957 and was a stone mason for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 64 and the Denny-Moyers-Pratt VFW Post 9606.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Elmore Funeral Home, Moorefield, WV with Pastor Danny Sterns officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield, WV where military graveside rites will be accorded.
