MR. ALFRED JARVIS.

Mr. Alfred Jarvis, who died at Wabba, Victoria, at the age of 94, was, with one exception, the oldest pioneer of the Murray River district Born in Kent, he came to Australia with his parents when he was four years of age; His family was amongst the first to enter the interior of New South Wales. Mr. Jarvis, as a boy, made a journey with his parents in a bullock dray from the interior of New South Wales to Adelaide, and he once had a terrible experience in an overland journey from South Australia to New South Wales with his wife and child. The child died on the way, and he had to defend himself and his wife against the blacks. It is claimed that he was the first man to drive a mob of cattle from Adelaide to Sydney. A brother, Mr. Stephen Jarvis, was killed by the blacks while exploring in South Australia.
