It is with profound sympathy that we announce the earthly departure of Dr. Cynthia Y. Murray. Dr. Murray entered into rest on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Lexington Medical Center.

She was born in Camden, SC on July 1st, 1947 the daughter of the late Edward T. Murray and the late Bessie Johnson Murray.

She was the valedictorian of her high school class at the now-defunct Boylan Haven Mather Academy, and went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and ultimately the University of South Carolina-Columbia with her Masters and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology.

Serving as a licensed and certified School Psychologist in the schools of South Carolina for over 25 years, she retired from the Kershaw County School District in 2005. She served by appointment to the SC Foster Care Review Board

A lifelong learner, she lead an active intellectual life, which included speaking French, German, and Spanish, closely following politics and international relations, researching & publishing genealogical profiles, and avidly consuming many genres of music and literature. She joined her favorite authors in 2014 when she published her educational thriller "Reading, 'Riting, and Ruthlessness" through Amazon.com.

As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Dr. Murray helped to found both her undergraduate chapter at WU- Madison and the graduate chapter in Camden.

A divorcee, she married twice, first to George Benjamin Boykin, and lastly to Woodrow James(deceased).

She was also predeceased by her parents and her beloved pets, Ogi, Edmund, and Samra.

Dr. Murray is survived by her two sons: George Murray Boykin, and Hasan Johnson James both of Camden, SC; her sister Lois Gaither Newton of Tyler, TX; her two nephews: Jon Cedric Newton of Tyler, TX and Justin C. Newton of Katy, TX; and her cousin: Dionne Lane of Lithonia, Ga.
