Childhood: Raised on “Five Acre Lake” in Emmitsburg, Iowa, then moved to Marengo, Iowa in 6th grade. Cindy’s father worked for Central Iowa Telephone Company. Cindy’s mother worked at Amana Refrigeration. Cindy graduated from Iowa Valley High School (Marengo, IA), in 1961. Cindy was a member of the Eastern Star. Cindy graduated from beauty school and worked as a beautician for the next 10 years. Cindy married Jim Olson in 1964 at the First Lutheran Church in Conroy, Iowa. Cindy and Jim moved to Council Bluffs shortly after getting married. Jim worked with the Iowa Highway Department and Cindy worked at Frito Lay. They had their first child, David James, while living in Council Bluffs. They moved to Shellsburg, Iowa and had their second child, Jennifer Renee in 1969. Cindy operated her own beauty shop and raised her young children in Conroy. The family moved to Lake MyKee, Missouri in 1974. Jim sold insurance and Cindy worked as a secretary. The family moved to a farm in Nebraska in 1980. Cindy continued in administrative and secretary positions while being involved in family, church and community activities. Cindy was a good friend to many and a role model for the young women in her life. Cindy and Jim moved to Olympia, Washington in 2007 to be near their daughter Jennifer. Cindy and Jim enjoyed over 10 years of retirement at their current residence at Steamboat Island Road in Olympia.

Hobbies: Cindy was very artistic. She mastered toll painting, knitting, sewing, ceramics and many other arts and crafts. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. She was a dedicated mother and enjoyed school activities with her children and grandchildren.

Cindy is survived by her husband Jim, her sister Molly, her children Dave and Jen and her grandchildren Steph, Jake, Maddy. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Grace Olson.

A celebration of Cindy’s life will take place at a later date to be decided by the family.
