John Sparks, 96, of Terrell, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2019. He was born September 16, 1922 in Limestone County, Texas to John and Louisa Sparks.

John married the love of his life, Katherine on September 1, 1941. He was a proud TSGT and Top Turret Aerial Gunner & Flight Engineer in the 530th Bombardment Group. He received numerous medals including a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, a Silver Service Star, and a Bronze Service Star while serving in World War II.

For over 30 years he was in the industrial construction supply and equipment business as the co-owner of Moody-Day Co. in Dallas & Louisiana and owner of John Sparks & Co. in San Antonio. He was a Deacon at Casa Linda Height First Baptist Church of Dallas. He also served on the Deacons Advisory Board of Junius Heights Baptist Church.

John was an honored guest at Governor Dolph Briscoe’s ranch. John enjoyed the outdoors, he loved hunting and fishing, farming, mowing and just being outside working on his home and property. He loved to cook out, especially for his family. He also loved playing blackjack and poker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine; parents, John & Louisa; & 9 brothers and sisters. Those left to celebrate his life are his son, Don Sparks & wife Patricia of Wills Point; daughter, Shelia Penn & husband James of Forney; grandchildren, Kimberly Lingley & husband Brad, John Romans & wife Joanne, & Jeffrey Sparks; great grandchildren, Alex Romans, Tyler Romans, & Nicholas Nicholson & wife Jessica; & great-great grandchildren, Ian & Ethan Nicholson.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Terrell, Texas from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.
