Craig Jesse Devore, 20, of 381 Semel Avenue, Garfield, NJ, was killed in action on July 8, 1968 in a battle near Saigon, Vietnam. He was born in Paterson on Monday, July 21, 1947 and resided in Garfield, NJ since 1957. Craig graduated from Garfield High School in June 1965. During his high school years, he participated in Student Council, Italian Club, Archery Club and Spanish Club. He played baseball and football and was part of the Skin Diving Team. Craig was formerly employed at ShopRite Stores Incorporated in Garfield and was a member of the local VFW. He entered the US Army in May 1966 and attained the rank of a sergeant. Craig served with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. He served in Munich, West Germany, prior to being transferred to Vietnam on February 1968. Beloved son of Jesse Arnold and Cecilia Jean (nee Madden) DeVore. Dear brother of Sandra DeVore of Garfield. The funeral services were officiated on Friday, July 19, 1968 at 10:30 AM in the Vermeulen Funeral Home, 131 Haledon Avenue, Paterson, NJ 07522. Interment followed at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.
