ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Bradley E. Miller, 73, of St. Augustine, Fla., formerly of Monticello, passed from this life Saturday (March 30, 2019).
He was born June 28, 1945, in Swedeborg, Mo., the son of Victor and Thelma Carroll Miller.
His family moved to Mackinaw, Ill., where Brad attended Dee-Mack schools and participated in sports. Upon graduation from high school, he enrolled in college at Illinois State University to become a teacher, his life's dream. While attending ISU, he played football for the Redbirds.
He married Barbara Morgan in 1967, who survives. His teaching career began in Chenoa, followed by Cerro Gordo, and Monticello, where he taught social science classes and coached a plethora of sports. In addition to teaching and coaching, he organized and chaperoned several groups of students to the presidential inaugurations in Washington, D.C.
He served as elder and Sunday school teacher at Monticello Christian Church for years. In addition, Brad was a councilman for the city government.
Upon retirement, Brad moved to Gainesville, Fla., where he volunteered many hours landscaping and serving as a board member at the University of Florida Christian Campus House. While in St. Augustine, Fla., he was a member of Creekside Christian Church.
His daughter, Allison (Jim) Blakely, survives with grandchildren, Jimmy Blakely, Bailey Lynch, Gabe Blakely, Tatum Blakely and Aayden Blakely. Also, Brad's brother, Larry Miller survives.
His parents and sister, Vicki Schmidgall, preceded him in death.
A celebration of life will be held at Creekside Christian Church, St. Johns, Fla., on Sunday, April 7, at 2 p.m. and a memorial service in Monticello on Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Stronghurst, Ill., Cemetery.
In lieu of other expressions of sypathy, memorials can be given to the University of Florida Christian Campus House, P.O. Box 13435, Gainesville, FL 32604-1435.
