Jan Fields, 79, Dickinson, died Saturday, March 30, 2019 at her home. Jan's Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2019 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Lisa Lewton and Rev. Joe Natwick officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Janice Cram was born in Bismarck on January 23, 1940, the daughter of George and Viola (Rotnem) Cram. She was raised and educated in Bismarck, having graduated from Bismarck High School in 1959. She attended Bismarck Junior College and had a received her teaching certificate from Valley City State Teachers College.
Jan married Bill Fields on June 8, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck. She taught her first year in Firth, Neb., Jan and Bill moved to Dickinson in 1965 where she began teaching at P.S. Berg Elementary until 1971. After the birth of their daughter, Jennifer in 1971, she took a year off and in 1972 she began a 32 year career at Roosevelt Elementary. During this time, she had received the Teacher of the Year Award in 1995.
Throughout the rest of her life, she was a strong and loyal supporter of the Dickinson Public Schools with their education and sporting events. She was a member of the Dickinson Public School Foundation, St. Luke's Board and the Dickinson Booster Club.
Jan is survived by her husband, Bill; daughter, Jennifer (Jaime) Garcia, Sierra Madre, Calif; three grandchildren who meant the world to her, Will, Jake and Adaline; foster daughter, Tina (Kevin) DeGree, Minot, brothers, Don Cram, Lake Placid, Fla., George B. (Jan) Cram Jr., L' Anse, Mich., Gerald W. (Charlene) Cram, Tonto Verde, Ariz., David D. Cram, Mesa, Ariz., Robert K. (Nancy) Cram, Scottsdale, Ariz., Mark P. Cram, Mesa, Ariz., sister-in-law, Janice (Larry) Blattner, Peoria, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lyle A. Cram; and nephew, Dale (Deb) Cram. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Dickinson Public School Foundation. Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, www.ladburyfuneralservice.com.
