He was the son of the late Otmer Hodges and Gertrude Edens Hodges. Gary worked at Alterman Transport Lines in Orlando, FL, R. H. Kyle Furniture in Charleston, WV and Labor local 1353 office in Charleston, WV. Gary was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Elkview.
He graduated from Elkview High School in 1959. Married Nellie Carr in 1961. They had one son, Gary Hodges Jr., whose wife is Angela.
Gary was one of the hardest working men alive, he always had a project and enjoyed helping his buddies with their projects. He loved to Deer hunt, camping, and fishing when he had the opportunity, but more than anything he loved his grandkids and did anything to ensure their happiness and wellbeing.
Along with his wife and only child he leaves three grandchildren, Brandon Lee Hodges, Breanna Lynne Hodges and Brechelle Leigh Hodges; 3 nephews he dearly loved, Randy, Curtis and Rodney Hodges; and one niece, Cynthia. Always treating them and their children as his own.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Mt. Pleasant Church Building Fund 57 Pleasant Drive Elkview, WV 25071.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Matics Funeral Home Inc. Clendenin, WV. Immediately following the visitation the procession will leave Matics Funeral Home for a Graveside service at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney
