Suggested edit: The Sea Coast Echo, March 26, 2019
Laura Piazza Griffith, 69, of Bay St. Louis, MS passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019 in Gulfport, MS.
Laura Ann Piazza Griffith or “Mimi” to most, had a gigantic heart for everyone and was always putting others before herself. She enjoyed being around family and friends and made friends her family. She loved her hometown, Bay St. Louis, and her church, Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church and was dedicated to both. Her love for cooking and camping fulfilled most of her time and her cooking was especially known for the OLG Crab Festival’s Crab Stuffed Potato’s, among other great food at the Crab Specialty Booth.
She was the eldest of the nine children and loved her sisters and brother’s deeply. She married and moved to Houma, Louisiana where she was a loving housewife, and was involved in the local Community Theatre. After moving back to Bay St. Louis, she was thoroughly involved in her children’s and many other children’s lives, where she was the “SSC Band Mom” and bus driver. She was known in Bay St. Louis throughout the years from her time as a Bus Driver, Teacher’s Aide, Clerk at City Hall, Administrative Assistant for the Building Department and lastly as Administrative Assistant at the Bay St. Louis Police Department, where she retired. All of which helped shaped the strong women she came to be. She was dedicated wherever she was and formed everlasting bonds with everyone. She had a warm heart, contagious laugh, and smile.
Her retirement life led her to spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She traveled often to visit and attend all of their activities, from half-time band shows, ballet performances, baseball games, haunted houses, crawfish boils to Mardi Gras, she loved doing it all, but always returned back to her beloved Bay Saint Louis. She was a one-of-a-kind soul that can never be replaced, and she will be truly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Roberta "Helen" Piazza and brother, Alan H. Piazza.
She is survived by her son, Blaine H. Griffith and his wife Jamie of Gainesville, GA; two daughters, Alicia G. Greenway and her husband Scott of Villa Rica, GA and Aimee G. O'Cain and her huband Jimmy, Jr. of Foley, AL; two brothers, Bernard J. Piazza, Jr. of Bay St. Louis, MS and George P. Piazza and his wife Glynnis of Kiln, MS; five sisters, Mary Helen P. Neal of Bay St. Louis, MS, Gina P. Dyess and her husband Steve of Prentiss, MS, Lisa P. Miller and her husband Mark of Gulfport, MS, Karen D. Piazza of Carencro, LA and Tina M. Piazza and Lott Hall of Gulfport, MS; eleven grandchildren, Benjamin Greenway (Kristie), Dillon Greenway, Landen Greenway, Hadyn O'Cain (Tyler Griffin), Hope O'Cain, Iain O'Cain, Gage Griffith, Joselyn Griffith, Gianna Griffith, Chase Griffith and Miles on the way; one great-grandchild, Olivia Greenway numerous nieces and nephews and "Meow Meow" her cat.
