Trooper Brooke Jones-Story died in the line of duty, Thursday, March 28, 2019, at approximately 11:24 a.m. She was inspecting a commercial motor vehicle on U.S. Route 20 westbound, just west of Illinois Route 75 in Stephenson County.
Trooper Jones-Story was outside her squad car when she was struck and fatally wounded as a truck tractor semi-trailer combination struck her squad car and the semi Trooper Jones-Story was inspecting.
Brooke graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy with Class 115, June 24, 2007. She was assigned to District 16, Pecatonica.
She leaves behind her husband, (Ret. ISP M/Sgt.) Robert Story, Jr., her parents, two step-children, a step-grandchild, a sister and her farm animals and dogs "who she loved dearly."

Brooke was a 2003 graduate of Warren High School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 2006. Following graduation, Brooke became a Trooper with the Illinois State Police, graduating from the Academy June 24, 2007.
On October 13, 2012, she married Robert L. Story, Jr. in Galena, Illinois.
Brooke loved her family and dedicated her life to serving others through her role as a Trooper and through the creation of an animal rescue.
She is survived by her parents, Mark and Carol Jones of Warren; her sister, Lindsey Jones of Madison, Wisconsin; her brother, Nicholas Jones; her husband, Robert Story, Jr. of Stockton and her step-children, Brittany (Bryan) Iwaszkiw of Denver, Colorado and Rachel Story of Chicago; her step-grandchild, Ella Iwaszkiw; maternal grandmother, Delores Myers.
Brooke was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Gladys and Delvin Jones, and her maternal grandfather, Richard Myers.
Public visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with a formal law enforcement walk through at 6:00 PM. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Warren High School located at 311 S Water Street, Warren, Illinois.
A celebration of Brooke’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at the Warren High School in Warren, Illinois.
Pastor Dan Herman will officiate the services.
