Obituary: Martha Jane Kerns, age 84, of Jane Lew, WV ascended to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from the comfort of her home. She was born on September 19, 1934 in Lewis County, WV a daughter of the late James Goff and Mabel Woofter White. On September 05, 1980 she married the love of her life, Russell Wade Kerns and they shared 38 happy years of marriage before his passing on March 23, 2019. Martha is survived by three step children whom she loved like her own: Carolyn Marie Kerns Hamric and husband, Richard, Timothy Wade Kerns and wife, Leann, and Russell E. Kerns and wife, Catherine, all of Jane Lew. She is also survived by step grandchildren: Nathan Hamric and Bianca of Rio Rico, Arizona; Lindsay Marsh and Wesley of Weston; Chelsea Hines and Ryan Kerns of Jane Lew; Valerie Jenkins and Drake of Clarksburg, WV; and James Russell (J.R.) Kerns and Stephanie of Bridgeport. She was also blessed with seven step great-grandchildren: Oliver and Elliott Hamric, Emilia Marsh, Parker Hines, Asa and Seraphina Jenkins, and Norah Kerns. Three siblings: Annabelle Clark of Midlothian, VA, Barbara “Jean” Stalnaker of Clarksburg, and John White and wife, Katerina, of New Castle, WA, and several nieces and nephews also survive Martha. In addition to her parents and husband, five siblings: James Spillman White, Wilma Lea Leach, Burl Lynden White, William Glenn White, and Joseph Elden White preceded Martha in death. Martha made a career of her talent for numbers as an accountant for Weston State Hospital and William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital. As a faithful Christian, Martha was a member and Lay Leader of Freemansburg United Methodist Church. She was creative and loved to make crafts. Being an enthusiastic Pirate’s Baseball fan, Martha never missed a game. In her quiet time, she loved to read and watch the blue birds and animals on the farm. Family will receive friends at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Road in Jane Lew from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Friday, March 29, 2019. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday in the Pat Boyle Funeral Chapel with Reverend Clara Peggs and Pastor Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden in Jane Lew.
