Amy Scott Gilkyson, the eldest daughter of the late Garret V. And Martha Scott, was born in Bensalem township, Bucks county,Pennsylvania, April 11, 1827, and was therefore, in her seventy-second year. Marrying in her native state, she removed with her husband, Courtland Gilkyson, to Iowa in 1854, and purchased a farm in Lake township, where she resided with her husband and children up to the time of his death in 1880. Of the four children born to them there are now living, Josephine, wife of John A. Field of Philadelphia, Pa.; Horace, of Woodbury county, Iowa; and DeWitt, of Ida county, Iowa. Samuel, the eldest son, preceded his father in death in 1879.
Deceased since the death of her husband, has made her home with her children, dividing her time between her youngest son, DeWitt, and her daughter, Josephine, in whose home she was visiting at the time of her last sickness and death, which occurred last Wednesday, October 13, 1898, in the city of Philadelphia.
Mrs. Gilkyson was formerly a member of the Congregational church and was a communicant at the Lucas Grove charge in this vicinity, during the continuance; she afterwards united with the M.E. Church, this charge, (High Prairie) where she held her membership up to the time of her removal to Cushing, Iowa, where she joined by letter, and of which church she was a member at the time of her death.
The remains of Mrs. Gilkyson, who died in Philadelphia, arrived yesterday morning on the 8:30 train, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Field, and were taken to the High Prairie cemetery for interment; the mourning family being met at the depot by a number of Muscatine relatives, and at the church by a host of friends.
The services were conducted in a beautiful and impressive manner by Rev. Montgomery of the Muscatine circuit, the choir rendering choice selections.
