Jim was a 1962 graduate of Clay City High School. After high school he worked at Logan Clay Plant and was drafted into the US Army in 1965. He served his country as an artillery mechanic during the Vietnam war. After his service he worked for J.I. Case in Terre Haute and for 42 years he was a retired die setter for Columbian Home Products. Jim married the love of his life, Susan Hubbs on July 12, 1969. He was fondly called, “Grandpa Jim.” He was a member of Berea Christian Church and served as a deacon for many years.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years, Susan Lovett; children, Tommie S. Poling (Rick), Brian Lovett (Brenda), James K. Lovett (Amy), and Edie Nichols (Chris); a brother, William Lovett (Linda); a sister, Susie June; grandchildren, Skyler, Makayla, Christopher, Justin, Kyndall, Chloe, Stacey (Michael) and Lindsey (Alex); and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, George and Reba Lovett; a brother, Harold Lovett; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Farris.
Services will be conducted on 11:00 AM Saturday, March 30, 2019 at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Avenue, with Pastor Jason Selby officiating. Burial and military rites will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 29, 2019 and Saturday, one hour before services in the funeral home.
