He was commissioned a Captain, Field Artillery, August 21, 1918 & promoted Major with the 57th Field Artillery, July 30, 1918. Deployed to Europe with Battery C, 305th Field Artillery, 77th Division and saw combat in France. Returned to the States, September 8, 1919 and assigned to the 58th Field Artillery. Discharged from the service Feb. 15, 1919.
