Joseph Matthew “Joe” Elkins, of Mustang, Oklahoma passed away March 19, 2019 at the age of 48. He was born September 27, 1970 in Beech Grove, Indiana, to Walter Joseph & Marilyn Kay (Perry) Elkins.

Joe enjoyed woodworking, fishing and reading. His mother, Marilyn said that Joe would have been a fantastic history teacher. He also enjoyed computers and listening to country music. Joe attended Mustang High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1988. He went on to attend Oklahoma State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a minor in History and then he went on to receive his Master’s Degree at Tulsa University in Computer Science. Joe worked at Cisco Computers for approximately 7 years. Joe also taught Cyber Security at Francis Tuttle Vo-Tech and Oklahoma State University at Okmulgee. He enjoyed watching Young Sheldon and the Antique Car Shows and he also enjoyed The Knife Show Forged in Fire. Joe was a very caring and generous person with a kind and loving heart. He had a funny sense of humor and enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with friends. Joe also enjoyed spending time at his cabin on Lake Carl Blackwell and being on his boat. His first love was spending time with his mom, dad, sister, family and friends.

Joe is survived by his parents, Walter & Marilyn Elkins, of the home; 1 sister, Christina Elkins, of Mustang; brother-in-law, Richard Jones, of Mustang; and 2 nieces, Kassidy Jones, of Mustang, and Sarah Jones, of Lewisville, TX.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home, located at 120 South Broadway6, in Moore, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel.
