Life Long Resident of Randolph had Long Sickness
Funeral Wednesday
Was Conducted According to Arrangements Deceased had Made Weeks Ago--No Family Surviving
Jason D. Merritt, a lifelong resident of Randolph, died at his home in East Main St. Tuesday morning. Son of the late Reuben Merritt and wife, Jason was born here in May 1857. He was twice married but had no children. The last of his father's family of four children: Lucinda, Angevine, Jay and himself, he is survived only a son of his brother Angevine and two daughters of his brother Jay.
During his long sickness, which has extended over a period of nearly two years, Mr. Merritt has been treated at a hospital in Jamestown and has been nursed by his neighbors and friends. Anticipating that his sickness would prove fatal, he had made arrangements in detail , which were carried out as requested.
The funeral was conducted Wednesday morning by Rev. F.C. Peck, pastor of the Baptist church. Bearers were Edward mack, Harry Merritt, Charles Miller and Leland Jones. Burial was made in the family lot in East Randolph Cemetery.
