Graveside services will be Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Burke Cemetery near Central City with Trent Wagner officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Burke Cemetery.
Lucille was born on September 16, 1925 to John and Johanna (Holtorf) Colby in Clarks, Nebraska.
She grew up in Big Springs and then moved to Clarks where she graduated in 1942.
Lucille taught in a country school for seven years.
She married Norman Lowell Nelson on November 30, 1946 in Concordia, Kansas. The couple lived in Grand Island where Lucille worked at Skagway and had her own Omaha World Herald paper route. She also worked at the Lazy V Motel.
Norman died in 1982.
Lucille moved to Chapman in 2000 where she was living at the time of her death.
She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, reading, sewing , and embroidery.
She is survived by two sons- Scott and Karen Nelson of Central City, NE; Stanley and Janet Nelson of Grand Island, NE; one daughter- Gloria and Jack Barton of Chapman, NE; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; a special caregiver and friend- Alice Faeh.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son and daughter in law – Perry and Joan Nelson; an infant brother; two sisters- Viola Butcher and Margaret Harry; one brother- Mervin Colby.
