Carol A. Rex, 81, of Berwick went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, March 24, 2019, after a brief stay at the Berwick Retirement Village.

Born Oct. 2, 1937, in Luzerne, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Goldie (Shultz) Rex.

Carol was a 1955 graduate of Berwick High School. From the time she became a Christian as a teenager, her life revolved around service to her Lord through church ministry. Carol served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years, beginning with young children and progressing to adults. She was the leader and teacher of Children’s Church for many years and a co-leader with her sisters of the annual children’s Christmas programs. Carol also led a weekly prayer ministry, lifting up the needs of the congregation as well as the community. In addition to these ministries, she was also the church librarian.

When Carol wasn’t ministering at her church, she enjoyed creative hobbies, including drawing, painting, crafts and ceramics. She especially enjoyed transforming large stones into painted homes and storefront scenes. Her nieces cherish the hand-cut paper snowflakes she laminated and gave to them as Christmas presents. She was also very interested in researching family ancestry, and her love for this study influenced other family members to share her interest in ancestry as well. She also loved gardening and was an avid reader.

Carol’s work history included many years as a sewer at Milco Industries. Later in life, she was employed by and retired from Mason’s Monogramming in Berwick.

Preceding her in death were two brothers: Sonny Rex and Alvin Rex.

Surviving are her three sisters: Fay Hess and her husband, James, of Berwick, Lois Rex, with whom she resided in Berwick, and Bonnie Dennis of Berwick; one brother, Harry Rex and his wife, Robin, of Berwick; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at 10 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. at Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 110 Chestnut St., Berwick, with the Rev. Keith Evans Jr. of Valley Community Church, Drums, officiating.

Interment will be in Martzville Cemetery, Berwick.
