Elizabeth Woodruff Hewitt died Monday evening, July 12, 2004, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 30, 1912, in Wolcott, N.Y., the daughter of Harry and Carrie (Harder) Woodruff.

She graduated from Wolcott High School in 1930; from Keuka College, Keuka Pack, N.Y., in 1934; and the Rochester (N.Y.) School of Commerce in 1935.

Her life in the business world began immediately when she joined the business office staff at Mount Hermon School in Gill, Mass. She soon became assistant cashier and served in that position for 15 years.

On Aug. 4, 1952, Alfred Burraughs welcomed her to work in the bookkeeping department of the Vermont Savings Bank. When it merged with Vermont Peoples National Bank, she was moved to the tellers line in the new location. She worked in this bank for 21 years.

On Jan. 1, 1944, she was married to Forrest Hewitt, which ended in divorce.

She was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church for many years and was a past regent of the Daughters of Isabella.

She is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Murphy of Wolcott and Florence Coleman of Bradenton, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Woodruff.
