Barbara Jean Hummel, 83, of Cordell entered the Gates of Heaven Monday, March 25, 2019, at Cordell Christian Home. She was born February 7, 1936 to James Smith and Iva (Jackson) Smith in El Dorado, Kansas.

She attended grade school and high school in El Dorado. She served on the Journalism Staff, as a proofreader for the school paper, “The El Dorado Crier”. She was also one of the Business Managers on the Annual Staff for the “El Doradoan”, the school annual. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1954.

On September 27, 1952 she married Robert Eugene Hummel, also from El Dorado, in Arkansas. For many years she was a stay at home mother. She was a fabulous cook and cared lovingly for her family. She was an avid reader and very musical. Barbara was devout in her Christian Faith, working with others to form several Bible study groups over the years. She was a strong Prayer Warrior and known to actively participate in national prayer chains that often spread to other countries. Later she did work outside the home doing some retail work before working, until she took early retirement, for Credit and Collections at Halstead Hospital in Halstead Kansas.

She retired in Mountain Home Arkansas with her husband Bob. She then went to work part time at one of the local Health Food/Nutrition stores. She was very knowledgeable on vitamins and nutrition and enjoyed helping others. They lived there until Bob’s health declined and they moved to the Cordell Christian Home in Cordell, Oklahoma. She remained in the Cordell Christian Home after Bob’s death, August 20, 2017. Barbara really enjoyed the Cordell Christian Home, making friends and being closer to her daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, sisters Gladys Wiley and Mary Ellen Trainor, and son-in-law Michael Reid.

Survivors include daughters, Sherry (Reid) and Son-in-law Justin Richardson of Clinton and Toni Munday of Oklahoma City; Grandson Joshua Classen and wife Tiffany, 2 Great-Grandsons, Charles Reid Classen, Conner James Classen of Houston Texas. Granddaughter Jessica and husband Adam Yohn, 3 Great-Grandchildren Harley JoLynn Reid Yohn, Ayden Wyatt Yohn and Jaxon Todd Yohn of Panama City Beach Florida.

Chapel services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, In the Kiesau Memorial Chapel with Carol Waters officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.
