John Calvin Flora Jr., 87, of Houston, TX, passed away at the home of his sister Josephine Shellady March 20, 2019 in Enid, OK. John was born August 6, 1931 in Coyle, OK, to John C. “Tim” and Dovie Keith Flora. He graduated from Pawnee High in 1950. He served in the US Army from 1951-1953. He married Alta Mae Sunderland, and she preceded him in death in 1993. He later married Gloria Korth Thomas, and she preceded him in death in 2016. John was employed by Goodyear Chemical Plant, retiring after 36 years. He was a longtime member of Parkgate Community Church of God in Pasadena, TX.
John is preceded in death by his parents, wife Alta Mae Flora, wife Gloria Korth Thomas Flora, brother Jerry Wayne Flora, sister Virginia Mae Flora, nephew Ralph “Dugan” Shellady, nephew Jeffrey Wayne Flora, nephew Timothy Flora, and niece Sara Flora.
John is survived by sister Josephine Shellady of Enid, OK; niece Tammy McCloskey and husband Joe of Clearwater, KS; niece Cathy Jo Anderson and husband Larry of Hunter, OK; niece Patty Flora Klick and husband Keith of Oklahoma City, OK; nephew Jesse Flora and wife April of Sheridan, AR; and nephew John T. Flora of Leesville, LA.
A graveside service for John was held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Houston, TX.
