Waterford - Vicki Elizabeth Turner, APRN, 53, of 6 Cozy Court, Waterford, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at her residence.
She was born March 24, 1953, in Middletown, the daughter of Robert G. Clark and Victoria Campbell.

Vicki was licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with prescriptive authority and was certified by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing. She received her undergraduate nursing degree from Boston University's School of Nursing and her master's degree in nursing, sub-specialty psychiatric-mental, from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu. She had a special interest in integrative medicine and her philosophy was that of combining traditional western medicine with holistic/eastern approaches.

Her work experience was multi-faceted and included: individual, group, family psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology experience in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric-mental health; management of psychiatric inpatient and outpatient programs; and psychiatric consultation in substance programs. She recently worked as an independent psychiatric nurse practitioner at Shoreline Counseling Associates and with Dr. Henry Crabbe, and had been employed in the New London county area with other affiliations over the past 14 years. In addition, she had held academic positions including an assistant professorship at the Yale University School of Nursing in the graduate program and as a clinical instructor of undergraduate psychiatric nursing at Dalhousie University School of Nursing, Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was one of a select group of women paving new paths as Nurse Practitioners to prescribe in a psychiatric setting in Connecticut. She loved her work and her clients.

She is survived by her parents, Robert G. Clark of East Lyme and Victoria Campbell of Colchester; two loving daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Turner of New London and Anissa Claire Turner of Waterford; a grandson, Rashawn D. Wright of New London; her ex-husband, James Richard Turner of Waterford; two sisters, Deborah Bochain of Lebanon and Patricia Rutka of Colchester; two brothers, Robert G. Clark Jr. of Mystic and Ronald Clark of Colchester; her maternal grandmother, Rose D'Alfonso; her partner, Bob Lloyd; and many cousins and friends. All were profoundly inspired by her zest for life, her laughter, and will miss her deeply.

The funeral will assemble at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Squire St., New London. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
