Fr. Thomas A. McKinney of Grand Rapids age 87 (born 12/1/1931) went to meet his Savior on Sunday March 24, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph C. and Antoinette McKinney, brothers; Bishop Joseph C. McKinney and David McKinney, and his brother in law Richard Pindar. Surviving are his sister Mary Lu Pindar, six nieces and nephews; Ann (Matt) Gryczan, Julie (Rob) Wesholski, Rick (Mary) Pindar lll, Amy (Jim) Morrissey, TJ (Kristen) Pindar, Mary Beth (Tim) O’Rourke, twenty one grandnieces and nephews and six great grandnieces and four great grandnephews. Fr. Tom attended Catholic Central High School (1949), Michigan State University (1953), St. John’s Seminary, Plymouth, Michigan (1961). He was ordained for the Grand Rapids Diocese on June 3, 1961 and spent all of his priestly years in West Michigan parishes. An accident in 1997 left him paralyzed from the chest down. Since then he has lived in assisted living at St. Ann’s Home on Leonard NW in Grand Rapids and enjoyed serving the people of Holy Trinity Parish, Comstock Park. He loved the priesthood and all the parishes he served. Father Tom was close to his sisters’ family. They’ve graciously invited him to celebrate Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas with them and partook in family events: Baptisms, Confirmations, Marriages, Graduations, etc. Father Tom loved the out of doors . Many days off would find him with the priest friends in their cottage by Irons, there they would fish, golf, hunt, ski etc. He also enjoyed a deer hunting camp by Remus every fall. But most of all, he would like to be remembered as a pastor who guided and fed the flocks entrusted to him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday March 28th at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church, 1200 Alpine Church Rd, Comstock Park, MI 49321. His family will receive visitors Wednesday March 27th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and Thursday from 10 to 11 AM at Holy Trinity Church. The Vigil Service will be held Wednesday evening at 8 PM at Holy Trinity Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Ann’s Home, 2161 Leonard St. NW Grand Rapids MI 49504.
