Danville - Harry William Wood was born October 28, 1927 at home in Rossville, IL, the eldest son of Harold and Mabel (Andrews) Wood. He passed away on March 22 at age 91. He married Emma Gillis on June 24, 1951 in Rossville. She survives.

He is survived by children Cheryl (James) Browning of Indianapolis and Bill (Patricia) Wood of Cleveland, GA. Grandchildren James (Marsha) Browning, Dawn (Doug) Pasquale, Rebekah Wood and Desiree’ (James) Brazas. Great-grandchildren Veronica (Ryan) Ming, Sam Browning, Madison and Brandon Pasquale; Great- great Grandchild Brooke Ming. He is also survived by brother John (Trudy) Wood, sisters-in-law Barbara Wood and Ina Rife Griffin, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Everett, father-in-law Luther Gillis, mother-in-law Myrtle (Morris) Gillis Egg, and brothers-in-law Ed and Robert Gillis, Floyd Rife and Robert Griffin.

Harry was raised in Hoopeston, graduating from John Greer Hoopeston High School in 1945. He entered the Air Force in October of 1945 and served until October of 1948. He then served in the reserves and was recalled to duty as Staff Sergeant in 1950 for a year during the Korean War. For several years before and after his active duty Harry worked for Sugar Creek Creamery in Danville. He retired from the Danville Post Office as a clerk in 1985 after 32 years. He was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees.

Harry was a member of Danville First Baptist Church since 1952, serving as Deacon, Sunday School Treasurer and Sunday School teacher for many years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St., Danville, Illinois 61834 with Pastor Paul Rebert officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Memorials in Harry’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
